My Aunt - Charlotte Harden

Stardom Arrives!!

Miss Grand Ole Opry of Michigan!! At the age of fifteen she won an all expense paid trip to New York as the result of an appearance on a television program in Lansing, Michigan. In 1959 (a year later), Charlotte joined the cast of the Michigan Jamboree and became part of the regular radio program broadcast from WPON in Pontiac, Michigan. Before Charlotte had graduated with "Honors" from Southwestern High School in Flint, she had already begun her journey to fame, her popularity rising with her records climbing the country music charts.

Charlotte with one of her many guitars!! It was during her teenage years that Charlotte became afluent in playing a variety of musical instruments, it seemed she had inherited some of her mothers' talent in this department. Charlotte played the acoustic, electric and steel guitar, and also played the banjo. (She played the banjo for many years as a member of the Michigan Jamboree). On a few of Charlotte's recordings her instrumentation can be heard, though for most of the recordings professional band members were hired. Charlotte did most of her playing when she performed on tour.
